REMAINER ministers have today threatened to QUIT and help block a No Deal Brexit – before Boris Johnson can sack them.

Philip Hammond and David Gauke are among the senior figures said to be considering walking out of the Government.

They are believed to back an amendment being voted on today which would stop BoJo suspending the Commons in order to push through a No Deal.

The motion, pioneered by a cross-party group of Remainer MPs, would create a legal duty for the new PM to address Parliament on a regular basis.

Mr Johnson has refused to rule out “proroguing” Parliament in order to stop the Commons passing a law to block No Deal Brexit.

An amendment to a new Northern Ireland Bill would make that impossible.

The motion written by Tory ex-minister Alistair Burt and Labour’s Hilary Benn forces ministers to make frequent updates to Parliament about the progress of negotiations between the Northern Irish political parties.

That means the Commons can’t be shut down totally – giving a fresh opportunity for MPs to pass Brexit legislation.

Justice Secretary Mr Gauke today refused to rule out resigning from the Cabinet in order to vote for the amendment.

He told the BBC: “At a crucial point in this country’s history that Parliament should not be able to sit, should not be able to express its opinion and its will, I think would be outrageous.

“I very much doubt that any Prime Minister would in fact suspend Parliament in these circumstances but I can understand the concerns that a lot of my colleagues have.”

Mr Hammond is also considering quitting, the Daily Mail reported.

Both men are almost certain to be sacked if Boris becomes Prime Minister next week.

Greg Clark and David Lidington are also at risk because they are unlikely to sign up to BoJo’s demand that we should leave the EU on October 31 with or without a deal.
