"Many Photos" - Mums-to-be advised to grip comb during childbirth as the ‘acupuncture points’ can ease labour pains

IF there’s one thing that’s obvious about childbirth it’s that it is bound to be painful – but a new helpful hint may be able to ease off the agony.

And before you start panicking about impeding space on your hospital packing, all you’re going to need to add is a simple fine-toothed comb.

Did you know a comb can be used during labor?! And no its not for your hair.

When gripped in your hands, a comb can…

The little-known pain relief tip has taken Facebook by storm after an American birth photography and videography company, Fox Valley Birth and Baby, shared it on their page.

They wrote: “When gripped in your hands, a comb can help hit acupuncture points in your hands helping your body forget about the contractions.

“It plays into the gate control pain theory. This theory states that the brain can only focus on a select number of sensations at once.

“Because the nerve ending on your hands are closer to your brain, they reach your brain faster.”

The best way to hold the comb, according to the company, is to ensure the comb hits the base of the fingers with the teeth pressing into the palm of the hand.

And while many mums would’ve heard pain-relieving ‘old wives tales’, many took to the comments to validate that the comb does in fact lessen the pain.

“I do this every time I get a tattoo,” wrote one woman. “It totally works!”

While another added: “I am a doula birthing partner and I keep a pack of combs in my bag for every birth.”

“I asked my sister to dig her long nails into my arms when I was in labour because it distracted me from the pain – so I think this idea would really work,” agreed a third.

Many other mums admitted they wished they had thought of the trick for their births, and some even planned to put a comb in their hospital bag.

“I will now be packing my hospital bag with a comb,” wrote one, while another said: “This is going straight in my bag. Can’t wait to try.”

“I wish I’d known about this when I had my first son,” one woman added. “Due my second son in October and a comb will definitely be packed!”

In other news, a mum gave birth to her BROTHER’S baby after he and his partner refused to trust a stranger as their surrogate.

Plus, a desperate mum asked for Facebook help to make her daughter’s fairy dream come true – and revealed how a kind stranger stepped up.

And a mum was horrified when a one-year-old IKEA oven exploded, shattering glass all over her newly refurbished kitchen.
