JURGEN KLOPP is furious his Liverpool stars have been unable to take a proper break this summer – and has demanded change.
The German has revealed his anger that Sadio Mane only completed his “13-month season” at the Africa Cup of Nations four days ago, while he is annoyed the Premier League season starts earlier than other European leagues.
Senegal striker Mane, Mo Salah, Roberto Firmino and goalkeeper Alisson are still on holiday following international duty and Liverpool face Manchester City in the Community Shield on August 4.
It should be pointed out that Klopp’s moans came in the middle of a money-spinning United States tour although this season, his team will compete in the Uefa Super Cup against Chelsea in Turkey, the Fifa Club World Cup in December, Premier League, Carabao Cup, FA Cup and Champions league.
Liverpool kick off the new season against Norwich on Friday, August 9 and Klopp, whose team lost 2-1 to Sevilla in Boston, said: “We sit here and it sounds like I am having a moan or whatever. It is just the situation, in the long-term, is not acceptable.
“For here, it is not a problem. We have all the boys here, apart from the three up front and Ali.
“It’s not like after three days you can say to them, ‘Hey! Come on! Let’s start running again!’. They have had a tough summer programme. It’s football.
“In the future, we have to change that. We have to change it. It is not possible.
There must be breaks. Come on, let them go. Be brave. Don’t treat every game like it is the last of a decade.

“It looks like nobody can imagine a week without football in the year. When did that happen? A game again, a game again.

“The pressure is everywhere. We need to calm this down. We need proper breaks, then you will get world-class performances.
“Then you can enjoy these boys in the long-term and it will be easier for the younger ones to come through.”
There will be a winter break in the new year but Klopp’s team have a congested programme which includes a trip to Qatar in December for the Club World Cup.

Striker Mane’s last game was the Africa Cup of Nations final against Algeria on Friday and he will return to training on August 5 – four days before the league opener.
Klopp added: “Sadio Mane’s season, after he played the final, will be 13 months. A 13-month season, that is how it is.
“Ask him how much holiday he has had. He’s played pretty much every game for Senegal. He’s played each game for us. Every international break, he is away. Ask him.”
