FINAL designs for Google’s next smartphone appear to have leaked online – and it looks just like Apple’s iPhone 11.
Neither handset has been officially unveiled, but the quality of leaks is improving as the autumn smartphone season approaches.
However, legendary mobile leaker and journalist Steve Hemmerstoffer has released a series of images showing what’s claimed to be a Pixel 4 smartphone.
The 3D renders – released in collaboration with gadget blog iGeeks – depict a handset that probably won’t launch until September or October.
Hemmerstoffer is well-known in the tech world for accurately leaking upcoming gadgets – including his early reveal of the new iPad Pro.
In a Twitter post, he bragged: “And finally comes your first complete look at the Google Pixel 4.”
Of course, the back of the phone isn’t new to mobile fans.
Earlier this year, the handset’s rear design was leaked online – prompting Google to publicly unveil the back of the device itself.
That means an official image of the Google Pixel 4’s rear end is already circulating online.
And it looks just like the rumoured Apple iPhone 11.
Just last week, we published footage and images of an iPhone 11 “dummy unit”.
The handset is based on claimed Apple designs that have leaked out through the company’s global supply chain.
Accessory makers use these “dummy units” to test out their cases ahead of smartphone launches.
And one of these phoney handsets was passed on to online retailer Mobile Fun.
As expected, the handset also has a large, square camera module on the back
That’s in contrast to the single camera on the iPhone 8, and the double camera on the iPhone X and iPhone XS.
Rivals have launched four- and five-camera phones, so Apple is under pressure to compete.
Multiple cameras can make significant improvements to your photography game.
For instance, several cameras have an easier time at sensing depth in a 3D space.
This allows for much more accurate augmented reality apps, including realistic Snapchat filters or better versions of games like Pokémon Go.
Multiple cameras also allow for a smartphone to have several different types of lens.
For example, you could have a wide-angle lens, a zoom lens, and a fish-eye lens for different types of photography.
Adding more cameras is also an easy way to improve a smartphone, giving you another reason to upgrade to the latest iPhone or Google Pixel.
The bad news is that neither Google nor Apple has officially released the entire designs of their upcoming smartphones.
As such, we’d recommend taking all leaks with a pinch of salt for now.
