Since 1873, it's now the sumptuous resort it is today, with the hotel overlooking Lake Como - one of the most romantic lakes in the world.
The sprawling property is set within a 10-hectare private park, with the numerous suites and rooms split into one of two buildings - the Cardinal Building and the Queen’s Pavilion.
Guests staying at the Villa D'este will either be treated to gorgeous views of the park or the lake, which also boasts a marina.
