"Many Photos" - Eye-watering price of refreshments for the public at Buckingham Palace's State Rooms

The Queen is happy for her subjects to eat cake but it’ll cost them. 

Now that the doors of the State Rooms at Buckingham Palace have been flung open to the public for £25 a ticket, it seems the monarch has no intention of missing out on a money-spinner, charging nearly £10 for a slice of cake and a cappuccino at The Garden Cafe.

A source tells me; ‘£3.50 is quite steep for a cuppa not lovingly created by a barista but dispensed from a press-button machine like the free coffee at Waitrose.’ 

But at least she’s taken a leaf from her planet-loving son Prince Charles’s book, by providing sustainable cups ‘made from plants not plastic’.
