"Many Photos" - Cops smash into 50C car to save screaming baby after his mum accidentally locks him in on shopping trip

A COP smashed the window of a parked car to save a screaming baby who had been accidentally locked inside during a shopping trip.

The unidentified woman frantically called the police after she locked her seven-month baby inside her vehicle at The Peach Shopping Centre, Atlanta on July 10.

Temperatures at the time hit a high of 33C, according to AccuWeather and the worried mum called the emergency services for help.

At those temperatures it would take around just 20 minutes for the temperature inside the locked car to hit 50C but it is not known how long it took for the police to arrive.

Atlanta policeman Roland Stoddard was sent to rescue the baby and the incident was caught on his bodycam.

In the footage the officer asked her: “Hey, ma’am, are you OK?”

The distressed mum said: “I need help getting into my car. My baby’s in there,” while a child can be heard screaming.

She added: “I called right away. I just didn’t know what to do and I didn’t have anything to break the window.”

Stoddard can be heard saying “It’s OK, buddy,” as he smashes a side window of the white car.

The policeman then reaches inside the car to unlock it and rescue the baby.

He later told the local TV station WSB-TV: “As soon as I saw that the child was in distress, I immediately forced entry.”

According to the report, an average of 37 kids across the US die every year from being left in a hot car.

Dr Maneesha Agarwal, part of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite, said: “There have been heat-related deaths reported when the temperature is as low as 60 degrees Fahrenheit outside, so you really never want to leave your child unattended in a vehicle.”
