"Many Photos" - Carrie Symonds has family history of infidelity and lies just like Prime Minister-in-waiting Boris Johnson

BARELY three months ago, we knew very little about Boris Johnson’s young girlfriend.

But a week, let alone 12 of them, is a long time in politics.

The photo of Boris and Carrie looking happy and relaxed in a Sussex garden after their raging row was was denounced as staged by cynics

Boris and Carrie’s relationship came out soon after The Sun revealed revealed that Boris and wife Marina had separated[/caption]

In that time she has showed off her glamorous side at the launch of his leadership campaign, posed with him in a “staged” photo following their explosive row at her flat, and been ring shopping in Notting Hill, West London — handily  captured by a paparazzo.

The 31-year-old girlfriend of the PM-in-waiting is now set to be one of the most powerful women in Britain as she takes her place beside him in Downing Street.

But if Boris, with his colourful private life, threatens to take  baggage across the No10 threshold, then so too does Carrie.

There have been accusations she fiddled her expenses in her former job as Tory communications chief, and took excess time off to campaign against the release of black cab rapist John Worboys, who targeted her  in 2007.

She had been a passenger in rapist John Worboys’ taxi, where she accepted a spiked drink and fell unconscious. She cannot remember what happened on the journey

Her family history, much like her powerful partner’s, is rich with infidelity and lies.

For Carrie, Boris represents a security she yearned for growing up. She was the product of an affair between her father, Matthew — a founder of The Independent   — and Josephine McAfee, a lawyer on the newspaper. Both were married to other people.

Carrie was raised by Josephine, 70, in a three-bed townhouse in East Sheen, South West London. Matthew, 64, provided financial assistance but, say friends, was not a big presence in her life.

‘SHE WENT THE FULL GUERILLA TO EVADE PAPARAZZI’

One said: “Carrie is aware there is a great hole in her life and she’s always been attracted to men who want to look after her and treat her a certain way.”

She was educated at the £20,000-a-year Godolphin and Latymer School in Hammersmith, West London, where Nigella Lawson, Sophie Ellis-Bextor and Kate Beckinsale were former pupils.

Aged 20, she testified in court against notorious sex offender Worboys. She had been a passenger in his taxi, accepted a spiked drink and fell unconscious in the cab. She cannot remember what happened on the journey.

She has said: “The worst thing is not having peace of mind. I’m 99.9 per cent sure that nothing happened to me, but I will never know.”

Last year, having waived her right to anonymity, she campaigned to stop his release from prison, where he had spent ten years for assaults on 12 women. She backed a judicial review which raised more than £60,000 via crowdfunding.

Meanwhile, The Sun fought a decades-long rule that kept details of Parole Board decisions secret.

Judges agreed with us, meaning the reasons behind the board’s shocking decision to free Worboys were revealed. Board chairman Nick Hardwick was forced to quit in the wake of the scandal.

Worboys stayed behind bars.

After graduating from Warwick University with a first in theatres studies and history of art, Carrie considered a career in acting.

She appeared in amateur productions and made it to the final casting for a supporting role in the 2007 Keira Knightley film Atonement. Having failed to get a part, she turned to politics, joining Conservative HQ as a press officer.

Her first duties included aiding Tory MP Zac Goldsmith’s electoral campaign in 2010 then helping  Boris get re-elected as London mayor in 2012, although those working on the campaign insist her contribution was marginal.

Despite being snubbed by Bojo’s kids, Carrie successfully cosied up to his environmental campaigner dad, Stanley, at an anti-whaling protest

She became a special adviser to John Whittingdale at the Department for Culture, Media and Sport and then worked for now Home Secretary Sajid Javid. In June 2017, aged 29, she became Conservative communications chief.

At her 30th birthday party in March last year, her millennial pals mingled with Cabinet members. Boris was also at the bash.

Still married to Marina Wheeler, his barrister wife of 25 years, he was already close to Carrie. A few  weeks earlier, they enjoyed a Valentine’s dinner at the upmarket Rules restaurant in Covent Garden.

For months, Carrie went to great lengths to keep their growing relationship secret.

A pal from her Tory spin days, said: “She went full guerrilla to evade them (paparazzi).

“She dyed her hair, moved out of her flat and sofa-surfed with different friends, swapping locations late at night. She ignored all her calls, froze her social media accounts and stayed away from anywhere there might be cameras.”

The mission was a success, and The Sun stunned Westminster last September when we revealed that Boris and Marina had separated and were intent on divorce.

A day later,  his relationship with Carrie, who had recently left  her post with the Tories,  came to light.

BORIS EXPECTED TO PROPOSE ‘ONCE THE INK DRIES’ ON DIVORCE

It was not Boris’s first extra-marital fling, but Marina had reportedly “had enough” and wanted a divorce.

Friends insisted the marriage was over before Carrie appeared on the scene. One said: “It’s not true that she broke up his marriage. It had been dying for years.”

The Carrie effect on Boris is clear to see. The scruffy hair, excess flab and boozy dinners have gone, and he has shown increasing political self-control.

Boris is expected to propose to Carrie “once the ink dries” on his divorce to Marina.

It is claimed his four children with Marina have been so devastated by his new relationship that they are refusing to meet Carrie.

His eldest daughter, journalist Lara Lettice Johnson-Wheeler — who is just five years younger than Carrie — told a friend her father was a “selfish bastard”.

In April, she wrote on Instagram it had been the “hardest and most hurtful year of my lil life”.

Despite these snubs, Carrie successfully cosied up to Boris’s environmental campaigner dad, Stanley, at an anti-whaling protest.

Ex-boyfriends have largely kept their own counsel but one, Oliver Haiste, paints a picture of an intense young woman with whom he had a “tumultuous” relationship.

He said: “When times were good with Carrie they were great. When times were bad they were awful.

“It’s the most up-and-down relationship I have had.”

‘SHE WAS GETTING A BIT HILLARY TO HIS BILL’

It was reported earlier this month that Carrie was asked to leave her £80,000-a-year job at Conservative HQ after being accused of abusing her expenses.

Tory sources claimed she was costing the party thousands in unauthorised costs, including taxis to restaurants even when off-duty.

Friends dismissed the claims as nonsense and a “politically motivated smear” by opponents of Brexit, adding she was ousted for taking time off for the Worboys campaign.

A Conservative source confided there were concerns Carrie was interfering with Boris’s leadership campaign, likening the pair to former US President Bill Clinton and his ambitious wife Hillary.

The source said: “There was tension that she was getting ‘a bit Hillary’ to his Bill — too involved in campaign detail.”

Then came last month’s row at Carrie’s £650,000 South London flat. Carrie, it was claimed, yelled “get off me” and “get out of my flat”. Boris demanded she  “get off my f***ing laptop” before a  crash was heard and police were called.

Her close friend Nimco Ali, Britain’s best known anti-FGM campaigner, said: “People in love row once in a while. So what, they are human. If anything I think this whole thing has brought them even closer together.”

THE ‘STAGED’ PHOTO

Days later a photo appeared of the happy couple enjoying a friendly chat in a garden in Sussex. It was denounced as staged by cynics, who also questioned how old the picture was and who was responsible for passing it to a news website. Boris’s team, significantly, denied all knowledge.

However the snap reached the public domain, the clunky stage-managed issue of the picture ensured it remained a story for several days. And, during one of his campaign’s most awkward moments, Boris refused to discuss the photo when asked about it 26 times by radio host Nick Ferrari.

But they do appear happier. It emerged on Sunday that the couple have bought a £1.3million property together in London.

Despite their apparent intentions to marry, friends  say Carrie  will not be accompanying Boris  to meet the Queen tomorrow, should he get  the top job.

Nor will she be at his side as he makes his welcoming comments to the nation outside   No10.

Carrie will remain an adviser at Oceana, which campaigns to protect and restore the world’s oceans, and is expected to move into Downing Street over the weekend.

Friends say she does not want the limelight and has “no desire to put herself in front of the cameras”.

As First Lady of Downing Street she may struggle on both counts.

SCANDAL ON THE STREET

BORIS JOHNSON would be the first Prime Minister to marry while in No10 since Lord Liverpool married Mary Chester in 1822.

But if long-held rumours are to be believed, it would not be Carrie’s first family connection with Downing Street. Some suggest she is the great-granddaughter of Herbert Asquith – PM from 1908 to 1916.

Carrie’s grandmother, Anne, was the result of an affair between the former Liberal leader and a war hero’s wife. Anne also had an affair, with married journalist John Beavan. They had Carrie’s dad, Matthew, together.
