EASTENDERS fans will have to find something else to do tonight as their beloved soap isn’t on because of the footie.
The usual Monday night slot will be replaced by the FA cup so fans will have to wait another day to see what the residents of Walford are up to.
Why isn’t EastEnders on tonight?
The long-running soap is temporarily suspended for the football tonight.
Instead of the usual dose of drama served up by the characters of Albert Square, the FA Cup will be aired instead.
BBC One will be airing live coverage of the Chelsea vs Manchester United game from 7pm – slap bang when EastEnders would regularly take place (at 7:30pm.)
But fret not – you won’t be missing any episodes as last week five episodes were aired instead of the usual four.
Tonight’s episode was moved forward to allow the two Premier League big boys go head-to-head in the fifth round of the cup.
When is it back on BBC 1 and what will happen?
Fans will be relieved to learn that EastEnders will be back tomorrow.
The show will return at 7:30pm on Tuesday, February 19th.
And the wait will be worth it as it’s set to be an eventful episode.
Tomorrow’s episode will see the return of Lofty and Mary the Punk after three decades.
They will come back to attend Dr. Harold Legg’s funeral.
The Sun’s Bizarre column exclusively revealed the news on December 11.
A soap source said: “Lofty and Mary The Punk are two of the most memorable characters of the original set of stars.
“It’s staggering to think it’s been more than 30 years since they were last on the Square but soap fans will be delighted to hear of their comeback.
“Regular viewers will know Dr Legg’s health is bad and it’s thought his death will play out in February next year, and these two will be back around the time of his funeral.”
And on top of the exciting return of the original characters, two new faces will be appearing in the square.
It will be the first appearance of double trouble Iqra and Habiba Ahmed.
The pair will lie to their uncle Masood about what brings them to his home, with the former postman soon learning that their arrival might not be all as it seems.
