With her elegant figure, she has graced the cover of Vogue and appeared on the catwalk for Chanel and Valentino.

But Edie Campbell, 28, was told that she was ‘too big’ to take part in a show at Milan Fashion Week and dropped at the last minute.

The British model is 5ft 10in tall with a 32½in chest, 24½in waist and 35in hips, according to her profile on her agency’s website.

After closing the Alberta Ferretti show on Wednesday, Miss Campbell told her Instagram followers that she had been cut from a show she was scheduled to appear in yesterday.

She shared a photo of herself tucking into a croissant with her friend, artist Christabel MacGreevy, telling her followers that she was treating herself to a ‘slap-up brekkie’ after being told by a brand, which she did not name, that she was ‘too big to open their show’.

She added: ‘And by “too big” I don’t mean “too famous”, I mean too fat.’

The average woman’s measurements in Britain are 36in bust, 34in waist and 40½in hips.

Miss Campbell, who is also a jockey, was born and brought up in West London by her interior designer mother Sophie Hicks and property entrepreneur father Roddy Campbell. She was discovered by photographer Mario Testino when she was 15 and included in his Vogue feature about up-and-coming young Londoners.

Miss Campbell then appeared with Kate Moss in a Burberry campaign, propelling her to stardom.

She was model of the year at the British Fashion Awards in 2013 and has appeared on the catwalk for brands including Dior, Alexander McQueen, Yves Saint Laurent and Louis Vuitton.

Last year she criticised the industry, saying: ‘We operate within a culture that is too accepting of abuse, in all of its manifestations ... the ritual humiliation of models, belittling of assistants, power plays and screaming fits.’

Last night Miss Campbell declined to comment.
