MPs who quit the Labour Party are 'scabs' who will regret their decision to walk out ahead of Brexit, a Jeremy Corbyn ally has said.
Brighton Kemptown's Lloyd Russell-Moyle took aim at eight of his former party colleagues at a London event on Wednesday night.
He told the 'Love Socialism, Hate Brexit' event that Mr Corbyn and his frontbench were moving towards a 'remain and reform' policy that the group could have supported if they had not jumped ship.
He is said to have told the event, attended by three shadow ministers: 'I am almost certain, when the votes come, that we will be in a position of remaining in and reforming the EU – and those scabs that left will suddenly regret the day that they ever left the Labour Party.'
'Scab' is a derogatory term used within trade unions to describe those who cross picket lines and continue to work during strike action by their co-workers.

He later accused them of 'setting up a pro-austerity party', branding it 'unforgivable', according to the Huffington Post.
Eight former Labour MPs quit the party this week: Chuka Umunna, Luciana Berger, Joan Ryan, Gavin Shuker, Ann Coffey, Mike Gapes, Chris Leslie and Angela Smith.
They have linked up with three disaffected Tories; Anna Soubry, Heidi Allen and Sarah Wollaston to form The Independent Group, an 11-strong centrist and pro-Remain collective in Parliament.
Mr Russell-Moyle was first elected as a Labour MP for his south coast constituency in 2017. He hit the headlines in December after being briefly suspended from the House of Commons for grabbing the ceremonial mace.
He picked it up as an old-fashioned form of protest at Theresa May postponing her planned Brexit vote.
In November, on World Aids Day, the gay MP became the first MP to use a Commons speech to reveal he was HIV positive, having been diagnosed a decade before.
On Thursday Mr Russell-Moyle took to Twitter to defend his 'scabs' comment but to say that he did not mean to criticise Luciana Berger.
The Jewish Liverpool MP hit out at anti-Semitism she has faced from within Labour as she quit, saying it had become an institutionally racist party.

He blasted the other defectors, accusing them of potentially damaging efforts to prevent Brexit despite all being supporters of a second referendum.
He said: 'They almost undid weeks of work we have done to get to the right position.
'I'm angry they have threatened us stopping Brexit by leaving (the party).
'I know they think they were not being listened to but this was not true, their abandoning and setting up a pro-austerity party is unforgivable.
'I explicitly excluded (Luciana) Berger but the others have betrayed there (sic) voters to set up a pro-austerity party and betrayed remain putting us back weeks in internal discussions!'
