"Many Photos" - Tyson Fury next fight to be in US in May… but will not be against Deontay Wilder

TYSON FURY will return to the ring in May but any fight with Deontay Wilder is all-but dead in the water.

Confirmation of the Briton’s £80million co-promotional deal with Top Rank, ESPN, BT Sport and Frank Warren conflicts with the American’s Showtime agreement.

Negotiating future fights with the WBC heavyweight champion and Anthony Joshua, who is tied to DAZN will now be problematic.

Any hope of a repeat of Fury and Wilder’s memorable 12-round classic last December are now distant, with a string of lower-rung opponents now expected for the Gypsy King.

Frank Warren said of Fury’s next fight, which is likely to be state-side: “I spoke to [Top Rank chief] Bob Arum last night, we’re trying to sort the day out.

“He wants to fight the latest in May.

“We will work on that and hopefully within the next week we’ll have the date nailed down.

“There is a lot of work to do.

“This is a secret within the industry.

“I am sure it is a big shock for Deontay Wilder and his team that this has happened.”

Fury added: “Frank says I will have three fights this year, hopefully I will. Last year I had three fights in six months. “I am looking forward to keeping busy.”

The 30-year-old, who fought Sefer Seferi and Francesco Pianeta prior to his draw with Wilder in Los Angeles, is keen to kick-start his deal with the American broadcaster.

Despite fights with the heavyweight division’s big boys now being tougher to clinch, Fury will not lose sleep over any failed talks.

He said: “You can only fight who is available and most of the time these big fights happen. Sometime they never happen.

“Am I going to cry about a fight that never happened? No, not interested.

“I can expect all these big fights to happen with Top Rank, Frank and ESPN.  Those three are going to control boxing as far as I am concerned.

“My expectations are colossal but the deliverance I’ll tell you this time next year.”

Having evaded the biggest names in the division, attention now turns to who Fury could duel with in the spring.

Should an American opponent be favoured, then fellow-southpaw and former IBF champion Charles Martin – knocked out by Anthony Joshua in April 2016 – could be a candidate.

Unbeaten Oscar Rivas would present a more formidable challenge however with the Colombian unbeaten in 26 fights.

His last bout against Bryant Jennings was also promoted by Top Rank and shown by ESPN.

Dominic Breazeale and Fres Oquendo represent more unlikely opponents, while Andy Ruiz is another contender.
