GREAT STRIKERS MISS CHANCES too. It is how they react after that which sets them apart.
Gary Lineker, Alan Shearer, more recently Harry Kane, would all brush the moment off, lift their heads and go again.
They all had the confidence to know that another chance would come and thenm they would put it away, invariably they did just that.
The problem for Marcus Rashford pre-Solskjaer was that the chances that arrived at his feet would be few and far between.
In and out the team, and when he did start it would be from a position wide on the left.
Rarely would it be down the middle in a situation where the ball would regularly find him and the goal would beckon.
Louis van Gaal and Jose Mourinho’s style and team selections did not allow for it.
When a chance did for for Rashford, if he missed there may not be another one falling his way for days or weeks
It gave space for a debate as to whether he really was a natural striker. It is different now. Take this last week as an example.
On Tuesday at home to Burnley early in the game he found himself one-on-one with the goalkeeper and nicked the ball wide of the far post.
Score and the whole game pans out differently, instead United have to stage a late comeback just to grab a point.
Rashford could easily have gone home thinking that was down to him. Solskajer, however, was quick to have a word with him after that game to keep his head up. He told him all great strikers miss opportunities and to put it out of his mind.
Still there will have been a sense of deja vue when after four minutes at the King Power Stadium he missed another great opportunity.
This time Luke Shaw had chipped a great ball to the far post and Rashford ghosted between two defenders to get his header.

He was largely unchallenged and aimed his nod for the far top corner, he put too much on it and lifted it over the bar. His hands went to his head.
His deflation was momentary for he would puff out his chest and five minutes later that miss was consigned to the cutting room floor as his goal took top billing.
Paul Pogba intercepted a loose ball by Ricardo Pereira into the centre of his own half and lifted a ball forward into the path of the alert Rashford.
He took one touch before steering a shot back across Kasper Schemeichel. That is six in eight league games for Rashford since Solskjaer took the reigns from Jose Mourinho.
That is nine wins and a draw out of ten for Solskjaer now too, seven wins and a draw in the league as they fight for a top four spot, something that looked beyond them towards the end fo Mourinho’s time.
It is some achievement in any league in the world.
This wasn’t spectacular but it was away to Leicester, a club that lifted the title back in 2016 and last time out held table toppers Liverpool to a draw at Anfield.
For all the talk of how much more positive the Red Devils have being going forward it is at the back where big strides have been made too.
David De Gea did have to be called on a couple of times most notably from a Rachid Ghezzal free kick while former United star Jonny Evans had an air shot from seven yards out with nine minutes left.
So United held on to a fourth clean sheet in seven games and all three points as Solskjaer took another step towards the permanent manager’s job at Old Trafford.
