CADBURY has cut the size of several Easter eggs — without slashing the price to match.

Chocolate giant has slashed the size of a number of Easter eggs to keep them “affordable” for Brit shoppers.

Five different tubes and bags of Mini Eggs have shrunk in the last year, The Sun can reveal

Mini Eggs are now sold in 80g bags compared with 90g last year.

But while the weight is down 11 per cent, the price has fallen just four per cent to £1.15.

The Crunchie Easter Egg and Large Creme Egg are 258g, from 278g.

The Heroes version has shrunk from 274g to 254g, Twirl has gone from 282g to 262g and Double Decker from 307g to 287g — a drop of 6.5 per cent. But prices have fallen by just 2.4 per cent to £6.

These giant packs of Mini Eggs have shrunk in the last year from 421g to 385g this year, losing 11 eggs in total

Family packs have shrunk from 328g last year to 296g this year, losing 10 eggs

Tubes have shrunk from 103g to 96g since last year, losing 2 eggs in total

Cartons have also shrunk from 41.5g to 38.3g – the difference of one egg

A Mondelez spokeswoman told trade magazine The Grocer: “Like all food manufacturers, we sometimes have to make changes to ensure that people can continue to buy their favourite Easter treats at affordable prices.

“We’ve worked hard to ensure we’re still offering families great value for money across what we believe will be popular products this Easter.”

The price of the shrunk Easter eggs has been cut by just four per cent, a smaller amount than the weight loss.

The cuts follow a surge in cocoa prices late last year.

Wholesale prices in London peaked at £1,766 a ton in December, up from £1,496 a ton three months earlier.

HERE are some of the biggest brand names that have shrunk products in the last few years:

Andrex toilet rolls – In 2017, two-packs shrunk from 221 sheets to 200

Creme Egg Multi-Packs – In 2015, the packs shrunk from six eggs to five

Mars bars – In 2013, bars shrunk from 58g to 51g

PG Tips – In 2015, boxes of 80 teabags shrunk from 250g to 232g

Surf washing powder – In 2015, packs shrunk from 2kg to 1.61kg

Terry’s Chocolate Orange – In 2016, the treat shrunk from 175g to 157g

Toblerone – In 2016, bars shrunk from 400g to 360g

Walkers crisps – In 2012, packets shrunk from 34.5g to 32.5g
