A HUMBLE speckled egg has spectacularly poached a world record number of likes on Instagram.
Here’s what we know about the egg that took Kylie Jenner to task – and what the reality TV star said about her rivals cracking her record.
What is ‘Instagram Egg’?
The now viral egg began with a simple plea to the public to help their ambitious quest.
A prankster posted a picture of the speckled egg on Instagram, challenging users to ‘like’ the post to beat Kylie Jenner’s record 18m likes.
The 21-year-old Kardashian was the long-standing record-holder after posting an adorable picture of her “newly hatched” daughter Stormi Webster.
Under the Instagram account ‘EGG GANG’, the joker wrote: “Let’s set a world record together and get the most liked post on Instagram…We got this.”
And it didn’t take long to smash the record, with the total soaring past 18million likes within a week.
As of January 15, the egg has been liked nearly 40m times – smashing the record twice over.
The mystery individual told The Sun Online: “No hard feelings Kylie. All’s fair in love and war.
“I thought it would be an interesting experiment to try and beat the record with something as basic as possible. Which led to me deciding on the egg.
“I guess it’s also a comment on celebrity culture and how fragile and easily cracked it is – pun intended. But really I just thought it would be funny if something as simple as an egg could take the crown.”

Kylie is the richest Kardashian sibling with £278 million beauty empire.
She has starred in the E! reality television series Keeping Up with the Kardashians since 2007 and is the founder and owner of cosmetic company Kylie Cosmetics.
But the mega rich 21-year-old was gracious enough to have some fun with the realisation her post was longer the most ‘liked’ thing on Instagram.
Kylie later acknowledged the new record-holder with a video on her Instagram showing her cracking an egg on a sun-baked pavement.
In the video she touches the ground, commenting that “it’s really hot”, before breaking the egg over it and laughing.
