ROBIN VAN PERSIE was on the receiving end of plenty of abuse during his Premier League heydays, especially after swapping Arsenal for Manchester United.
The forward enjoyed 11 years playing at the top of English football, but the experience is worlds apart from Dutch domestic games.

Van Persie was a formidable striker, but his impressive form meant that opposition fans dished out plenty of abuse.
Arsene Wenger brought Van Persie to North London in 2004 and turned him into a star man during his eight years at the club.
But his switch to the Gunners’ fierce rivals left him on the receiving end of plenty of abuse.
The Dutchman explained that when he returned to play in his homeland, he had forgotten what it was like to be applauded for his efforts.

Van Persie said: “In England, I suffered constant abuse, shouting and booing at every away match. I felt that abuse for all of the 11 years I played in England.
“In fact, when I returned to Holland last year, I forgot what it was like to receive applause in other stadiums.
“I have realised what a wonderful thing it is if you get some respect from fans at other grounds.
“My away matches feel almost comfortable now. That is a beautiful experience, after those years in England.

“When I look back on what is behind me and the things I experienced in England, it was really heavy. I was not aware of that when I was in the middle of it all.”
Van Persie called time on his career in England in 2015 and moved to Istanbul giants Fenerbahce.
He then returned to his homeland to play for Feyenoord.
The former United striker will call time on his illustrious career at the end of the season, at the age of 35, but he has been reflecting on some of his career highs and lows.
Van Persie has bagged a record 50 goals in 102 games for his country.

He lifted the FA Cup with Arsenal, before helping United to their last trophy under Alex Ferguson.
Despite achieving such success, the Dutch international described the relentless nature of fixtures at an English club as a roller coaster.
