New photo Ryanair jet aborts its landing TWICE at Leedds Bradford Airport after being blasted by 50mph winds

This is the terrifying moment a Ryanair passenger jet aborted its landing seconds from touching down as it was battered by 50mph winds.

The plane was descending on the runway when a fierce gust knocked it off-course and caused the pilot to suddenly pull the aircraft up and circle round to try again.

The flight, from Malta to Leeds Bradford Airport, failed to land twice before diverting to Liverpool.

It's standard procedure for pilots to circle round and try to land the aircraft again if they feel a sudden blast of wind while descending on the tarmac. 

MailOnline has approached Ryanair for comment. 

Most of the country was hit by ferocious winds today, with the Met Office warning snow is on the way by next weekend.  

The North East took the brunt of winds today, with gusts reaching 50mph.

Winds between 40-50mph hit the rest of the country.

On the face of it, low temperatures of 8C today seemed rather mild, but chilly gusts made it feel more like 4C - with the mercury expected to plunge below freezing later tonight.
