SADIO MANE has missed out on being crowned Senegal player of the year to Manchester United target Kalidou Koulibaly.
Liverpool star Mane has been on fire for club and country over the past two years in which he has established himself as one of the best forwards around.
And he also shone at the World Cup in Russia despite Senegal failing to make it out of the group stages.
But the 26-year-old was pipped to the honour of the best Senegal player of 2018 by Napoli defender Koulibaly.
The centre-back has proven himself among the top centre-backs in the world game with his form for the Serie A club.
And that was enough to see him win the public vote to scoop the prize, beating Mane into second place.
Koulibaly, 27, polled an impressive 41 per cent of the votes with Mane being chosen by 26 per cent of those taking part.
Bordeaux right back Youssouf Sabaly came home third as Mane and Koulibaly dominated the voting.
United are desperate to capture the signature of Koulibaly to bolster a defensive line that has shown up to be weak over the past 18 months.
Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has claimed he has already rejected a £95million bid from Old Trafford for his influential defender.

But United have indicated to interim boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer the money could be there to return with an improved offer of more than £100m.
Napoli have no intention of losing one of their star players but may find the money hard to turn down if United do come back with more.
The failure of the club to make it through to the knockout stages of the Champions League has been a big blow and could leave Napoli vulnerable to an approach.
Ironically, it was Mane’s Liverpool who did the damage to the Italian side in the group stages – pipping them to the runners-up spot behind Paris Saint Germain.
New rules this season mean a player can play for two different sides in the Champions League in the same season if they are transferred in the January window.
United can offer that, plus a huge increase in wages and the chance to play in the Premier League.
