New photo Kate wears ensemble costing TWICE as much as Meghan's head-to-toe cream outfit

Today saw the Duchesses of Cambridge and Sussex showcase their sartorial prowess as they headed out on separate engagements.

While Kate upped the high end ante with her Oscar de la Renta suit it was Meghan, who is normally known as the designer Duchess, who reached for a more modest look.

The pregnant duchess stepped out in an all-cream ensemble as she headed to the Mayhew Animal Home in London, the highlight being a dress costing just £24.99.

Meghan, 37, highlighted her bump in the jersey dress from H&M and added a high end tough with the help of an an old Armani coat worth an estimated £2,000.

Just two days ago, the Duchess of Sussex made a sartorial statement in a bright red and purple ensemble. Today, she took a more subtle – yet equally captivating – approach in a cream-coloured look.

While Meghan recycled an old Armani wool coat, the rest of her outfit was new: an H&M knitted dress, the coveted Stella McCartney ‘Falabella’ bag and matching heels.

We were especially pleased to see the Duchess donning a high street label, so that is what we have to talk about! Hailing from the brand’s MAMA line, her fine knit featured a stand-up collar and softly-gathered side seams for snug fit that hugged her growing bump just beautifully.

The great thing about this dress is it’s available to purchase immediately! So don’t wait around; click (right) to make it yours.

Meanwhile Kate also revisited an old look arriving at the Royal Opera House in a £2,736 suit by Oscar de la Renta.

When it came to their accessories both duchesses chose reasonably pricey pieces with Kate carrying a £495 leather handbag from Aspinal while Meghan touted a £815 tote by Stella McCartney.

Heels were the order of the day with casual footwear left at home.

Kate who is well known for recycling her footwear, in particular a pair of Gianvito Rossi nude pumps, she pipped for a pair of black stilettos with a gold buckle detailing by Rupert Sanderson costing £525 today.

Meanwhile the US born royal continued the cream theme in the form of a suede pair of sling backs by Paul Andrew costing £524 complete with a stiletto heel despite being six months pregnant.

Unsurprisingly the most expensive attributes to both women's outfits came in the form of their jewellery.

The Duchess of Cambridge completed her look with a pair of 18K gold Asprey London Oak Leaf hoop earrings, a pair that she has favoured on several occasions, costing £5,000.

The Duchess of Sussex wore a pair of Pippa Small 18K golf Herkimer earrings totaling £495.

January is normally a quieter months in the royal calendar. But today sees three duchesses out on duty.

Meghan visited the Mayhew animal shelter in north London just shortly after her sister-in-law investigated the costume cupboard at the Royal Opera House.

Meghan will later make a trip to a charity performance of Cirque du Soleil with her husband, Prince Harry, at the Royal Albert Hall this evening.

And in Scotland Camilla will undertake two engagements at the University of Aberdeen in her role as chancellor.

THE ROYAL WARDROBE THIS WEEK: KATE VS MEGHAN

This week saw the Duchesses of Cambridge and Sussex return to work following their festive break, and they have offered up a varied sartorial display.

MEGHAN

On Monday, Meghan paid a visit to Birkenhead alongside Prince Harry where they visited various community projects. The engagement saw her step away from her usual monochrome colour palette, embracing a bright new combination of purple and red.

It seems that Meghan was inspired by her late mother-in-law's love of bright colours for her engagement on Monday with Princess Diana previously favouring the colour pairing.

The Duchess of Sussex relied on an old favourite when it came to the designer, opting for a red version of the Sentaler coat she had worn to her first Sandringham Christmas back in 2017.

She also owns a camel version of the £1,085 coat from the Canadian brand which she was able to tie at the waist during her first royal Christmas.

Pregnant Meghan added yet another pop of colour the mother-to-be opted for a purple dress from Babaton by Aritizia dress and a pair of court shoes in the same shade as her coat.

KATE

On Tuesday Kate did away with formal wear and opted for a more casual ensemble as she visited a community garden in Islington, North London.

The Duchess of Cambridge wore a khaki tweed jacket by Irish brand Dubarry costing £399. The jacket has proven to be a hit with Kate, having been spotted wearing it while last-minute Christmas shopping in the Range in Norfolk on December 24.

She opted for her trademark skinny jeans for Tuesday's engagement, her go-to look when it comes to more casual occasions such as this.

In light of the chilly temperatures, Kate added an extra layer in the form of a rust coloured roll-neck jumper from J-Crew that could be seen peeking out from her jacket and ditched her signature stilettos in favour of a practical walking boot, £252 (reduced from £360) by See by Chloe to muck in with local school children.

She added just a touch of bling in the form of a small pair of gold leaf-motif earrings which were framed by her bouncy brunette locks, worn in loose waves.
