"Many Photos" - Remainer restaurant boss refuses to remove anti-Brexit slogan from receipts despite worried employees getting DEATH threats from far-right thugs

A REMAINER restaurant-owner is refusing to remove an anti-Brexit message from his receipts – despite worried staff receiving death threats from far-right thugs.

Ibrahim Dogus began adding the phrase “Brexit is bad” to all his bills at Westminster Kitchen on London’s South Bank a short walk from the Houses of Parliament.

But he claims staff immediately began receiving angry and threatening phone calls.

Negative reviews mentioning the political slogan have also been posted online.

One Tripadvisor user, who rated the restaurant as “terrible”, wrote: “On the receipt it pushes political beliefs. Will never visit again.

“All I wanted was a nice meal but even that was too hard.”

TARGETED ONLINE

But Dogus – who has also put the Brexit-bashing phrase on receipts at his other two London restaurants – insists he will not get rid of it.

He told the Independent: “We have been targeted by far right groups who are organised on social media.”

Dogus said it seemed that critics had been “encouraging each other to attack our business by leaving fake reviews on TripAdvisor, Google Business, and Facebook.”

A longer message at the bottom of each receipt reads: “Brexit is bad. Immigrants make Britain great. They also cooked and served your food today.”

DEATH THREATS

The restaurateur says he has contacted police after staff received death threats from supporters of reviled right-wing firebrand Tommy Robinson.

Robinson, real name Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, shared an image of the receipt on Facebook on Sunday.

He wrote: “Why are they bringing politics into their food business?

“I do hope that 52 per cent of their customers decide to no longer give them their business” – referring to the proportion of Leave voters in the UK at the 2016 referendum.

Dogus says he will change the text to a different anti-Brexit message on February 1.

He added: “I believe love will win over hate and those who are trying to disguise their racism as political activism are once again caught out.”

But worried staff fear that the premises will be targeted by violent yobs.

Dogus admitted that “employees have been worried about threats of violence and abuse” since the message appeared on his receipts.

He added: “It has been a horrible few days and our staff feel worried about what’s happening.

“Our manager, Maliq Konjuhi, said that he is worried that someone will come and physically attack our premises”.

The Sun has contacted the restaurant for comment.
