NETFLIX’S new horror film Bird Box is all about people being driven to suicide if they lock eyes with something sinister.
The streaming site’s original film has been horrifying fans since getting its festive release but what is the meaning of the Netflix film and what memes are there?
What is Bird Box about?
The film’s synopsis explains: “Five years after an ominous unseen presence drives most of society to suicide, a survivor and her two children make a desperate bid to reach safety.”
Oscar-winning actress Sandra Bullock plays a mum-of-two living in a post-apocalyptic world under the threat of something supernatural.
She lives with her windows covered up at home and only goes outside wearing a blindfold until they get a chance of freedom.
Based on the 2014 novel, if the characters open their eyes, they’ll be infected with something that will force them to violently kill themselves.
What is the meaning of the film?
The movie shows how a disability – in this case blindness – turns out to be protection against monsters.
Malorie, played by Sandra Bullock, keeps her feelings caged, but learns to have faith in things unseen.
