COMMUTERS will today have to battle thick fog and freezing temperatures as the Met Office warned of “dangerous driving conditions” this morning.
A yellow weather alert is in place across the South of England until 11am today after sub-zero temperatures and fog rolled in overnight.

Visibility will be down to less than 100m for some – which also threatens rail users and could see flights grounded.
Met Office meteorologist Emma Smith said there will be “dense patches of fog that will form quite quickly” which “could lead to some dangerous driving conditions”.
She added that temperatures were expected to drop to as low as minus 1C in the South West first thing this morning – with the freezing conditions a cause of the fog blanket.
She said: “The fog could cause some slower driving conditions, journey delays to busses and train services, and there is a chance of some delays to flights as well”.

Ms Smith said the weather will be quite cloudy across much of the UK – with the sunniest conditions across Scotland.
But after the fog clears many parts will enjoy balmy temperatures reaching double-figures.
She added: “Temperatures will be in double digits for most places, Scotland and Northern Ireland 10C, 9C across the north of England, 11C in the Midlands, and similar in the south.
“It is quite mild for the time of year, tomorrow night temperatures widely are around 7C to 8C and that is what it should be in the daytime at this time of year.”
New Year’s Eve revellers across the country can also expect a mild night for fireworks celebrations.
There will be clear conditions across the UK on Monday – while temperatures will hit a balmy 11C in parts.
It will be twice as warm as the average December – only dropping to 9C in London, 8C in Manchester and 7C in Birmingham for the countdown.
But there is a risk of low cloud potentially affecting punters’ views of fireworks displays.
Helen Roberts, a Met Office meteorologist, told The Sun Online: “We’re just on the cusp of how much detail we can give at this early stage but it’s looking like there will be high pressure across the south of the UK and will be quite quiet.
“It will probably be quite cloudy, so not dissimilar to now.
“We’re not expecting any significant rainfall.

“There is potential for rain to push in around northern Scotland, but it’s too early to tell how far south this rain could travel.
“It will probably be dry but cloudy.
“Expansive clouds won’t be ideal for fireworks displays but the temperature won’t be too cold.
“It’s just the low cloud that could scupper the displays on New Year’s Eve.”
