STORES are geared for a “bloke blitz” today — with seven in ten last-minute Christmas shoppers expected to be men.

The frantic fellas will focus on finding jewellery, perfume, chocolates and lingerie for their partners, retail analysts predict.

A record £1.1billion is expected to be spent — including £400million online — according to the Centre for Retail Research.

The previous high for December 24 was 2016’s tally of £1billion.

Centre spokesman Prof Joshua Bamfield said: “Christmas Eve will be bigger than recent years, with a flood of men running around the shops.

“Some won’t even have begun their Christmas shopping yet.”

The analysis, for VoucherCodes, puts the spree down to most workers having today as an extra day off — as it follows a weekend.

Some will have avoided the shops at the weekend as they nursed hangovers.

Many shoppers are also waiting to see if there will be discounts.

“Post-Christmas” online sales began at 5pm yesterday, starting with Debenhams. Next’s will begin at 4pm today, followed by John Lewis’s at 5pm.
