SANTA Claus was left dangling helplessly in the air after his sleigh broke in front of hundreds of children.

Footage shows Santa – dressed in his traditional red suit – facing the ground after the float he was sitting on collapsed.

Hundreds of people had gathered around to watch the Christmas Fantasy Parade at Disneyland in California on Saturday.

But they were stunned when Santa almost fell to the ground and footage of the tense moment was posted online.

A clip shows the man dangling in the air while still attached to his safety harness.

Witnesses said he was still in good spirits and was laughing and waving to guests as he waited for crews to free him.

He was eventually helped down after dangling in front of terrified kids

Instagram user elaeuphoria uploaded the clip online and wrote: “Saw Santa almost die at Disneyland today.

“His sleigh broke and he was hanging by his harness.”

Others said once he was eventually cut free he walked the rest of the parade route and waved to excited kids.
