JERMAIN DEFOE could be handed a Premier League lifeline by Crystal Palace.

Eagles boss Roy Hodgson is weighing up a January loan move for the Bournemouth striker who is considering leaving the south coast to get more game-time.

Former England ace Defoe, 36, has a contract with Bournemouth until 2020 but has played a total of just 22 minutes in his four League games this season – last featuring against Newcastle a month ago.

A string of Championship clubs want Defoe, including Nottingham Forest, Sheffield United and Wigan.

But Hodgson, looking to boost his firepower despite having little money to spend next month, might look at the renowned poacher as a short-term option.

Defoe joined Bournemouth from Sunderland in 2017 and earns £65,000-a-week.

In all, he has amassed nearly 500 Prem appearances, most notably with Tottenham and West Ham.

Defoe also bagged 20 goals in 53 games for the Three Lions.

He was awarded an OBE at Buckingham Palace last month, dedicating the gong to his “little friend” Bradley Lowery.

Defoe became close pals with Bradley, who died last year aged six from a rare cancer.

The London-born goal-getter was honoured by the Queen for setting up the Jermain Defoe Foundation.
