BLACK Mirror fans have been experiencing an “event” in itself with Netflix giving fans an interactive episode in the form of new instalment Bandersnatch.
Viewers follow young programmer Stefan Butler who descends into madness follows the story of Bandersnatch author Jerome Davies, but is he real?
Is Jerome F Davies from Black Mirror Bandersnatch real?
Jerome F. Davies does not appear to be a real author – his books, including The Lives of Jerome F. Davies, are fictional creations for the Black Mirror film.
The word Bandersnatch actually comes from Alice and Wonderland creator Lewis Carroll in Through the Looking-Glass and What Alice Found There.
There also seems to be a reference to Lewis Carroll in the trailer when Stefan apparently steps through a mirror.
There was a real 1984 game called Bandersnatch, but it was never released. It was being developed by Imagine Software as a new generation of game but that folded after 18 months.
What is Black Mirror Bandersnatch about?
The official synopsis for Black Mirror: Bandersnatch reads: “In 1984, a young programmer begins to question reality as he adapts a sprawling fantasy novel into a video game and soon faces a mind-mangling challenge. Welcome back.”
But as the show has a choose-your-own-adventure format, and it’s claimed five hours of footage was filmed all together, fans can be watching it for hours.
This summer, parts of Croydon were transformed into 1980s-style shopfronts for the movie, including a WHSmith shop full of music and books from the time.
Locals could have been forgiven for thinking they’d slipped into a time-warp as brands including a retro Pizza Hut and Wimpy begun appearing in the South London suburb.

When is Black Mirror Bandersnatch released on Netflix?
Bandersnatch, which at an hour and 30 minutes IS the longest Black Mirror ever produced, launched on Netflix TODAY (December 28).
A sneak peak trailer has been released, suggesting the plot revolves around a video game programmer who wants to turn his favourite choose-your-own-adventure novel into a game.
There was a lot of speculation over whether Bandersnatch was the first episode of Season 5, but it seems to be a stand-alone story.
When exactly Season 5 will be released, Netflix aren’t giving anything away.
