A MULTIMILLIONAIRE tycoon who left a toddler brain-damaged in a 70mph smash WILL be prosecuted over her death – which came nine years after the crash, it has been reported.
Cerys Edwards had just turned one when Antonio Boparan’s Range Rover hit her family’s car at 70mph in a 30mph zone.
She was thrown from her baby seat and broke her spine, leaving her paralysed and requiring round-the-clock care.
The crash happened in Sutton Coldfield, in the West Midlands, on the evening of November 11, 2006.
Cerys had to undergo dozens of major operations over the years but died at Birmingham’s Children’s Hospital on October 17, 2015, a month before her 10th birthday.
It’s understood a summons has been served on Boparan – heir to the £800million 2 Sisters Food Group – to appear in court next month on a charge of causing death by dangerous driving.
Boparan, who had been driving a Range Rover owned by his parents, was convicted of dangerous driving 18 months after the crash and jailed for 21 months.
He served just six months in prison.
Cerys’ father, Gareth, 54, a builder, has long called for fresh charges against Boparan so he could “serve a proper sentence”.
Speaking to the Daily Mail he said: “I promised Cerys justice and that’s hopefully what we are going to get.
“This has been going on for 12 years and we have never had closure.
“The police have been fantastic and have worked their socks off on this case and I would like to thank them for keeping at it, even though it has taken so long.”

In 2009 “Cerys’s Law” raised the maximum sentence for causing serious injury by dangerous driving from two years to five.
Three years later, the Birmingham high court approved the award of £5m to Cerys and an annual payment of £450,000 to provide rest-of-life care.
A spokesman for Mr Boparan said: “Antonio is unaware of any official notification and therefore it would not be appropriate to comment at this stage.”
