A driver had a lucky escape after he lost control of his car on a frosty road and crashed into metal railings, which pierced his windscreen.

Police officers were left 'speechless' that the front-seat passenger and driver, who passed his test weeks ago, were both uninjured in the crash in Linton, Cambridgeshire, on Friday.

Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Roads Policing Unit tweeted: 'Back Lane #Linton it's not often we're left speechless...

'The 2 occupants are thankfully going home to their families uninjured tonight. Driver only passed his test 5 weeks ago. 

'Not all rural roads have been gritted so please drive to the conditions.'
