THE bill for Sadiq Khan’s six-week beach party has rocketed to more than £400,000, we can reveal.

The final cost of the Royal Docks party, which took place in East London over the summer, reached an eye-watering £462,794.

The Mayor’s office helped fund the free bash for the public, The Sun revealed earlier this year.

The pop-up beach party featured a swimming pool, street food stalls and classic film screenings.

Critics said the money should have been spent on cops to protect Londoners instead – at the same time as the Mayor was complaining about stretched budgets.

Last week he confirmed that council tax in the capital would have to rise by 50p a week to fight violent crime.

State-funded, Leap, provided the funds for the party

After a string of murders in the capital as the crime wave continued, 2018 has been confirmed as worse than last year’s.

The Mayor blamed the Home Secretary Sajid Javid for failing to give the Met police the funding it needs, and claims that Londoners will have to cough up instead.

The money for the beach project came from the London Economic Action Partnership – which works under the Mayor’s office.

The cash for the project was from business rates generated in the local area.

50,000 Londoners flocked to the beach to enjoy a 22-metre swimming lido, a sun deck, street food stalls and musical entertainment – all for free.

Susan Hall AM told The Sun: “If Londoners needed anymore evidence that the Mayor is wasting money on the wrong priorities, this is it.

“Young kids are being murdered on our streets and TfL is nearly a billion pounds in the red – it is extraordinary that Khan has chosen to spend almost half a million pounds on a beach party.

“To add insult to injury, the Mayor has splurged thousands more on this party than he originally budgeted for. Does Khan not think that this cash would be better spent getting more police officers on London’s streets?

“It’s just not good enough.”

James Roberts, Political Director of the TaxPayers’ Alliance called on him to re-think his priorities.

“As if it wasn’t already daft enough, that the mayor was splashing taxpayer cash on a beach party.

“He needs to ditch the deck chairs and rethink his priorities. Londoners want more coppers on the beat, not beach balls and art projects.”

A spokesperson for the Mayor of London said: “This is a ludicrous attack on LEAP which is a partnership between businesses, councils and the Mayor that supports economic growth and small businesses across London.

“Dock Beach is part of the wider regeneration of the Royal Docks – which has the potential to deliver 35,000 jobs, 4,000 new homes and more than £5 billion of inward investment by 2037/38.

“The beach is funded through the LEAP using businesses rates generated in the Royal Docks and ensures that Londoners are at the heart of the regeneration. The attraction increased footfall for local traders and nearly 50,000 people attended this summer.

“It also raised the profile of the Royal Docks among potential investors, and engaged residents on the area’s future.”
