A teenage thug who was one of a gang who battered a traffic warden, stole his moped and left him fearing for his life, is facing jail.

Danyal Bashir, 19, and other men stamped on, punched and kicked Charlie Weston in the throat in the horrendous attack in broad daylight on September 14.

Weston, 21, was set upon by at least five men when he attempted to ticket an illegally park car in Alum Rock, Birmingham. 

The warden from Wolverhampton was able to call a colleague who alerted police as Charlie lay on the ground fearing he would be killed.

Bashir admitted the attack and was told he is likely to receive a jail sentence.

Ex-security guard Charlie said he was terrified by the attack while police are yet to find the other men involved.

He said: 'I got hit by a car before, and that was life-threatening, but I feel like I was in more trouble here.

'I didn't notice people coming up behind me, I just turned and saw a man in a hoodie with the cords tightened so I couldn't see his face. The bike wasn't what they were after, they wanted to give me a kicking.'

Video footage showed Mr Weston being attacked after he tried to ticket an illegally parked car

Mr Weston was dragged off his moped and thrown into the road. As he lay on the ground, one thug ran up to kick him in the back and another pulled up the visor of his helmet before stamping on his head at least six times.

Another joined in before running across the road to steal the moped.

Mr Weston said: 'While they were stamping on me, they kept on trying to take my helmet off but I just kept my head covered. I was on the floor for a good few minutes after it happened. I thought they'd broken my jaw. I do genuinely feel lucky to be alive – I didn't think I was going to get back up.'

Mr Weston – who works for private contractor NSL on behalf of Birmingham City Council – spent four hours in hospital.

But despite being left with injuries to his face and having to take painkillers, he was back on patrol yesterday. 

Judge Kristina Montgomery QC told Bashir yesterday: 'Anyone committing an offence against a public servant should be under no illusion that they are likely to receive a prison sentence.

'When I know more about you I will sentence you.'

Bashir was ordered to return to Birmingham Crown Court for sentencing on November 23.
