"Many Photos" - Moment YouTube star, 35, was given electric scooter as birthday present just days before she was killed in crash

THIS heartbreaking photo shows the moment YouTube star Emily Hartridge was given an electric scooter as a birthday present – just four days before she was killed in a crash.

The TV presenter, 35, died after a collision with a lorry on her electric scooter in Battersea, South West London, on July 12.

In her last video, posted on July 8, Emily, also host of Channel 4 show Oh S***, I’m 30!, told her 350,000 subscribers the scooter was a birthday present from her boyfriend.

In the video her boyfriend – personal trainer Jacob Hazell, 27 – tells her: “This is the one you can use to (get to) work. It’s electric and apparently the best one in the game.”

Emily is said to have been in a collision with a lorry as she circled Queen’s Circus roundabout in Battersea shortly after 8.30am.

Paying tribute to her in an emotive Instagram video, Jacob said: “Emily was the person who encouraged me to talk about how I was feeling so I just wanted to put a video out here to say thank you and let people know I’m OK.

“Emily has three amazing sisters and two amazing parents and they’ve been fantastic and I just want to say thank you for all the nice messages I’ve received.

“I wanted to let people know that I’m fine. I love you all and I love Emily and I really appreciate all of the support.”

The presenter, one of four sisters, was a fifth-generation member of the family that owns Hartridges soft drinks, based in Hampshire.

Tributes were posted on social media by TV presenters including Davina McCall and Zoe Hardman as well as the BBC Radio 1 DJ Chris Stark and the musician Harry Gardner.

Less than 24 hours after her death, a 14-year-old boy was critically injured in Beckenham, South East London.

LAWS ON ELECTRIC SCOOTERS

These crashes reigned the debate around how to regulate electric scooters in Britain.

Plenty of e-scooter continue to ride past the spot where she died, the Daily Mail reported.

Electric scooters, which cost up to £200, are similar in design to a traditional child’s scooter but are powered by an electric motor, meaning they can reach speeds in excess of 30mph.

Many retailers on Amazon’s UK site fail to mention it is unlawful to ride e-scooters on public roads in the UK.

At present, they can only be used on private land in the UK.

Noel Forrest, 35, one of Emily’s friends, said: “Clearly e-scooters are not safe. Why allow the sale of something that is not safe?

“The existing ban on them should be enforced.”

E-scooters have proven incredibly popular in many countries across Europe and the US.

But electric scooter safety has become a major concern in many areas.

In Austin, Texas, a study by the Centers for Disease Control found almost half the injuries suffered by e-scooter riders had been “severe”.

Anne Hidalgo, the mayor of Paris, has announced a crackdown on the scooters, issuing fines for bad parking, riding on pavements and breaking the 20km/h speed limit.

The first French rider to be killed was hit by a van in Paris last month. An 80-year-old pedestrian died in April after being hit by one in the city.

The Metropolitan Police said in April it was cracking down on them in an effort to increase road safety.

However companies, such as Bird and Lime, that offer electric scooters for hire are urging the Department for Transport to update the law to allow them on public highways.
