"Many Photos" - Mother of SIXTEEN reveals the extensive roster she uses to organise her chaotic home

Mother-of-16 Jeni Bonell has showcased the 'formal roster' she uses to get her 16 children involved in the housework at their home in Toowoomba, Queensland - and it's not for the faint of heart.

The 50-year-old mum gets her children from the age of eight to carry out chores at home, and says if you have a lot of kids you need to be organised.

'At present we have 13 of us in the house,' Jeni said in a YouTube video on how she gets her children to do the chores.

'A couple of the older kids have moved out or got married, but we still have a lot of people in this household, so I think it's really important to keep some order to the chaos.'

Speaking about her roster, Jeni said she divides it up by week and child.

'Our job roster came about back when we had six or seven children,' she said.

'Dad was working hard trying to support us, and I was a stay-at-home mum. But I was doing all the jobs.

'And even though the children were small at that time, I still felt like I wasn't teaching them to do these jobs and how to give back to the family.

'If mums are doing all the jobs all the time, then no one's going to have any fun because mum's going to be exhausted and everyone else is getting everything done for them all the time,' she said (pictured: the weekly roster)

Jeni said her rule is 'if you live here, you work here' - she added that 'you have to contribute, you have to do the jobs' (pictured: Jeni with her 16 kids)

Jeni said when she and her family first started the chore roster, it was just a 'bit of scribble on paper' - it has since evolved to laminated cards (pictured)

Jeni said when she and her family first started the chore roster, it was just a 'bit of scribble on paper'.

'It was very time consuming to work it out,' she said - especially when she factored in the fact that her teenagers got part-time jobs.

And so, she came up with a more organised plan - and one that could cater to both older and younger children.

'We put our kids on the roster from the age of eight,' Jeni said.

'So from eight and upwards, they're on the formal roster.'

'If you are struggling to get your kids involved around the house, then you might want to try a chore roster,' Jeni said (pictured: one of their weekly shops)

Speaking about the roster, Jeni said: 'We have very few complaints about it. Everyone gets on with it and accepts there are a lot of things to do in a family of this size' (pictured: family meals)

'I'm pretty proud of the kids. They're pretty independent and very skilled,' the mum said (pictured: some of the snacks given to the children)

When it comes to how it works, Jeni said the family sit down each week and work out each child's timetable.

How does the chore roster work?

1. First, Jeni and her family sit down each week and work out each child's timetable - including their part-time jobs, sports timetables and more.

2. Secondly, Jeni said she has laminated cards with jobs on them and varying jobs are put next to different kids' names.

3. The jobs change each night, giving each child a chance to do everything and learn each skill.

She said the chore roster has been so good, her 12-year-old can even put a roast dinner on for 12 people with 'very little supervision'.

'I'm pretty proud of the kids. They're pretty independent and very skilled,' she said.

The Bonell family includes mum Jeni and dad Ray, plus 16 children aged five to 29: Jesse, Brooke, Claire, Natalie, Karl, Samuel, Cameron, Sabrina, Tim, Brandon, Eve, Nate, Rachel, Eric, Damian and Katelyn.
