His younger brother Chris, 71, said the aging rocker is lucky to be alive after the heart problem was spotted on a scan.

The heart condition is similar to the one that killed The Clash star Joe Strummer when he was just 50.

“Mick is doing OK. I spoke to him… he’s good. It just showed up on a scan so it could happen to anybody, you know,” Chris told the Sunday People:

“It happened to Joe. He came back from walking the dogs and his wife found him collapsed on the sofa. He had this valve problem.

“His father died from it. It was hereditary. With Mick it came on a check-up.

“That is why when you get to a certain age they want to check for this, check for that. You get to 70, you got to be careful, you know.

He suggested that the health scare may convince Mick to “slow down”, adding: “Touring is a pressure.”

Mick has told his fans “feeling much better” following the surgery.

He wrote on Twitter: “Thank you everyone for all your messages of support, I’m feeling much better now and on the mend – and also a huge thank you to all the hospital staff for doing a superb job.”

Billboard reported that nurses are monitoring him closely for any signs of complications following the minimally invasive op.

Surgeons New York-Presbyterian Hospital were able to fit a catheter to repair the faulty valve without having to open up his chest, friends said.

A source close to the ageing rocker added: “He is resting and recovering well.”

The Satisfaction singer is aiming to be back on stage with the Rolling Stones by the summer.

The Sun Online has contacted Jagger’s representatives for comment.

It comes after the band were forced to postpone their upcoming tour due to to Mick’s health.

Last week, The Sun exclusively revealed that the singer was due to undergo heart surgery.

Mick hopes to be out of hospital just 48 hours after the procedure – but will need weeks of recuperation.

His defective heart valve was picked up during a medical ahead of the band’s North American tour – which was due to start in Miami next month.

It led to the shock announcement on Saturday that the band were postponing the 17-date sell-out No Filter Tour.

As much as £200million had been spent on tickets by around a million eager fans.

Announcing the postponement, the Stones said in a statement on Sunday: “Mick Jagger has been advised by doctors that he cannot go on tour at this time as he needs medical treatment.

“The doctors have advised Mick that he is expected to make a complete recovery so that he can get back on stage as soon as possible.”

Jagger himself tweeted: “I’m so sorry to all our fans in America & Canada with tickets. I really hate letting you down like this.

“I’m devastated for having to postpone the tour but I will be working very hard to be back on stage as soon as I can.

“Once again, huge apologies to everyone.”

The dad-of-eight was spotted enjoying some downtime on the beach in Miami with his family and bandmate Keith Richards, 75, over the weekend ahead of the op.
