"Many Photos" - Police probe 'unexplained' death of 18-year-old girl who collapsed at a seaside nightclub

The death of a teenage girl who collapsed at a seaside nightclub was being investigated today.

The 18-year-old was believed to have suffered a cardiac arrest and to have been rushed to hospital where she died. 

The incident happened shortly before 4.30am today following a night out at the O2 Academy in Bournemouth, Dorset.

Police said that the girl, who was from the Thames Valley, fell ill suddenly and paramedics were called to the music venue.

The ambulance staff immediately called for police after realising the serious condition of the teenager. 

The woman had traveled from the Thames Valley to Bournemouth to attend the gig at the O2 academy venue with friends.

She was rushed unconscious to the Royal Bournemouth Hospital but was unable to be revived by doctors. 

A post mortem examination was expected to be carried out on her body to establish the exact cause of her death. 

The woman was attending the all night music set played by musicians 'My Nu Leng & M8s' at the 1,800 capacity venue when she collapsed among the crowd.

Two men who were in the venue at the time of the incident told ITV news at the scene: 'It was shut down early. We were moved out early, but nothing was really said about what happened.'

'It's shocking, you can't really comprehend. Not very nice at all.'

A spokesman for Dorset Police said that the death was being treated as 'unexplained.'  

She declined to give any further details about the victim's identity but confirmed that the Dorset Coroner had been informed of the death. 

In a statement the O2 academy Bornemouth said: 'We're sorry to hear such sad news. Our heartfelt thoughts and condolences are with family and friends.'
