For quick medical questions, Google can be an awesome resource. Things like “how much aspirin is too much aspirin” or “how often should I poop” (quick search told me the answer is somehow either 3 times a day or 3 times a week. That doesn’t seem good…).
Google released their top 10 most searched medical questions of 2018, and there is some pretty cool information there. So here’s all the questions that people searched and the answers they wanted.
What is the keto diet?
The ketogenic diet is all about eating more fatty foods and eating less carbs. This will trigger ketosis, where the liver will turn fat into ketones, and the body will use that for energy, helping you shed some pounds.
This is the second year this question has topped the charts, so maybe there is something to this diet. That being said, is there anything better than bread and potatoes? A life with garlic bread and fries is no life at all…
What is ALS disease?
ALS is a disease that slowly destroys nerve cells, severely affecting the nervous system. This was searched heavily for two reasons.
First, this year we lost renowned physicist Stephen Hawking from ALS, he was diagnosed with the disease at age 21 and told he had only a few years until the disease took him. He passed away in May at age 76.
Second, the first human trial for ALS treatment began in December and is currently enrolling healthy volunteers and ALS patients to test the new drug, AT-1501.

What is endometriosis?
Endometriosis is a disease where tissue that normally lines the uterus grows on other pelvic organs. This can cause debilitating cramps during menstruation, with symptoms such as severe migraines, painful bowel movements, bleeding between periods, and nausea.
Multiple celebrities have spoken out about their fight with endometriosis, such as singer Halsey who has spoken on multiple occasions on her struggles with the disease. A big talking point is the misdiagnosing of endometriosis as normal issues that come with periods.
There was also a new treatment for the disease that was approved in July.
How long does weed stay in your urine?
For all you people applying for jobs or have a drug test coming up, it’s best to lay off the wacky tabacky early. Marijuana can stay in your system for 30 days, or even up to 3 months if you are a daily smoker, joker, or midnight toker.
How long does the flu last?
Is too long an answer? Generally, the flu will last for 1 to 2 weeks, but there is no specific time range. Numerous things can shorten or extend the time you spend slowly wishing for death while exploding from all ends, such as your general health or the severity of the sickness.
How long is the flu contagious?
The flu is most contagious in the first 3 or 4 days of sickness. It’s important to note that symptoms may not start until 2 or so days after you’ve been infected, so you may be spreading the illness without knowing it.
As a real medical doctor (not true), I recommend getting your flu shot or sealing yourself in a bubble a la Jake Gyllenhaal in Bubble Boy.
When does implantation bleeding occur?
Implantation bleeding occurs when a fertilized egg attaches to the lining of the uterus to begin growing. This is a normal occurrence during pregnancy, and is often an early sign that you’re now making a tiny person.
Why am I always tired?
Unfortunately, there isn’t one correct answer for this. A poor sleeping schedule, stress, or just busy days can all lead to being tired. But it could also be a sign of other health issues like a vitamin deficiency or a poor diet. If you feel that your sleepiness is uncommon for your lifestyle, consult a doctor to do medical stuff for you.

What does heartburn feel like?
Heartburn is your stomach acid coming back up into your throat, so to answer the question: it feels like shit.
But in a more medical explanation, it is an uncomfortable burning in your chest, neck, and throat, and can also lead to a butter taste in your mouth and throat.
What causes high blood pressure?
A lot can lead to higher blood pressure, and like being tired there isn’t one answer for this. Doctors are the best resource to ask if your blood pressure is too high or ways for it to be managed and lowered.
