SOL CAMPBELL believes the Silkmen are all set to turn on the style ahead of his first league game as a gaffer on Saturday.
The new Macclesfield manager made his debut in the dugout on Tuesday when his side were knocked out of the Checkatrade Trophy on penalties by Newcastle Under-21s at St James’ Park.
But Campbell saw signs that his ideas are getting through to the players as he gets ready for his League Two bow at Colchester this weekend.
The Arsenal legend, 44, faces a huge fight to stay up, with the Silkmen sitting four points adrift of safety at the foot of the Football League.
Yet Campbell wants to play an attractive brand of football — and insists such an approach can even reap rewards in England’s fourth tier.
He added: “I like to get the ball down and play it.
“I get this level of the game and I think you can still play good football in League Two and be able to win matches.
“That’s the way forward. It’s all about playing at the right moments and in the right areas.
“I want to play good football and, at the right time, really go for it and have that killer instinct in front of goal.
“I want my players to be savvy and hungry all over the pitch.”

Ex-England defender Campbell added: “I have only been here a week and had to implement things very quickly — but the guys are responding.
“I haven’t got too much time to get them to play the way I want them to, so we will have to do double time.
“We need to be really focused and we can’t waste a minute on the training ground.
“But the players have responded so far and are keen to take everything on board.
“They are very intelligent guys. I have seen the talent, they just need to be structured a little bit.
“We are more than capable of pushing up the league — we’ve just got to be focused.”
