A perfectly decked out tree with stunning lights, a beautiful array of gifts and baking that's Instagram-worthy is always the Christmas dream.
However, for some, the reality can be anything but.
In the spirit of being able to have a laugh when things don't go quite to plan, people have taken to social media to share snaps of their 'Christmas fails' of 2018.
From awkward gift wrapping and baking disasters, to smashed gingerbread houses, Femail takes a look at some of the most awkward and hilarious fails that will sure make you feel slightly better about your day.

Use your imagination! If you run out of Christmas wrapping paper, take a leaf from this person's book and simply create your own by reusing birthday gift wrap

This present comes with 'socks appeal': The person wrapping this gift appears to have tapped a selection of spare socks to a plain brown box and topped the whole thing with a gold bow

When all else fails, do your best and slap on the largest and brightest bow you can find

Oh dear! This gift is actually an upright vacuum cleaner, and it's also slated for someone's mother
One person decided to wrap a vacuum cleaner for their mother after ditching the box.
However, they were shocked to find a phallic-shaped item after covering up the household appliance with pink wrapping paper.
'Just wrapped my mom's Christmas present. It's a vacuum, I should have left it in the box,' they said.
While there's nothing better than wowing family at a Christmas celebration with a stunning array of baked goods, things don't always turn out as you'd expect.
One person shared how they'd made an attempt to save their gingerbread house by adding a cookie festooned with a pink Yin and Yang symbol, some Smarties and bright red icing.
'When you try to make a lovely gingerbread house and it ends up as a bloody horror house,' the person wrote alongside their photo revealing the end result.

'Now taking custom orders! Just kidding these are awful,' shared one amused social media user

Gingerbread houses (pictured left and right) featured aplenty among the #Christmasfails and none appeared to follow any particular tradition

This creation looks as if it would have been perfection had it not collapsed for no apparent reason
One mother decided to create a 'Frankengingerstein's Monster' - a giant pizza shaped like the gingerbread man.
'When your daughter gets ideas that you now have to execute. This is gonna (sic) be the biggest fail ever and the creepiest gingerbread man pizza when it bakes,' wrote one woman alongside an image of her unique creation.

Santa's eggsclent little helpers: 'If you squint hard, have a few shots and a concussion, they KINDA look like Santa!' Wrote one enthusiastic home cook

Dried fruit makes for a pretty topping on some foods, however, charred slices don't really hold the same appeal

'OMG! Fashion Disaster! My bird had a nipslip! Better cover it up and move on,' wrote one person of their roasting bird

'My one and only Christmassy "fun day" baking with the kids and I give you... Snowball cakes,' shared a mum alongside a snap of some rather flat-looking cakes
While you'd expect wrapping and baking fails aplenty, there were also a few photos of Christmas trees which showed not all had gone to plan.
One snap revealed a tree lying mysteriously on its side, along with a caption that read 'I invented a new alarm clock.
'This went off at 3.30am. My favourite ornament is broken.'

It's not clear what caused this tree to end up on its side, however, the person who shared this photo said their new 'alarm clock' went off at 3.30am

If you are going to spend the time and money on a real tree for your home, make sure you remember to water it unless you wish to end up with a brown specimen on the day

There's nothing more disappointing than a toppled tree, especially if all its ornaments have been smashed to pieces
It needs to be noted that no Christmas celebration is complete unless there's a nativity scene.
One person shared a photo showing a traditional scene, complete with Mary, Joseph and the three kings.
There's also a cow and sheep hovering close by, however, baby Jesus has been subbed out and replaced with a small smiling toy.

These decorations should have featured on the Christmas table, however, exposure to heat has rendered them somewhat unrecognisable
'When God loses the baby Jesus, Fisher-Price Play Family to the rescue!'
Lastly, decorations make the day, however, as one person revealed their set of candles which should have added a special touch, didn't quite 'make it' as they'd melted ahead of time.
'May I have a moment of silence for the choir boy candles that didn’t make it, please?' The woman shared alongside her snap.
