New photo Manchester ammonia leak sees huge cordon in Salford as fire crews respond to ‘hazmat incident’

RESIDENTS in Salford have been warned to keep their windows and doors shut this morning after an ammonia leak at a cash-and-carry.


Specialist fire crews are tackling what they called a “hazmat incident” in Langley Road South.

Commuters have been warned to avoid the area as a large cordon has been put in place.


Four fire engines were dispatched just after 3:30am this morning, Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said.


In a tweet, a spokesperson warned locals to “keep windows and doors shut”.


And drivers should “avoid the area if possible” as the road will remain shut “for some time”.

In an update just before 5am, the fire service added: “Crews have been tackling the ammonia leak for a few hours.


“A decontamination operation is underway.


“Please avoid Langley Road South, Salford as it’ll be closed for some time.”

In a tweet, Greater Manchester Police said: “GMP officers are supporting GMFRS at a large scale incident on Langley Road South in Salford.


“The road is currently closed so please use an alternative route or avoid the area.”
