As residents in China's northernmost province brace for a bitter winter, many tourists found amusement amid the sub-freezing temperatures and biting wind.

Authorities announced that temperatures fell to -41.1C degrees Celsius on Tuesday, -42.1C on Wednesday and -43.5C Thursday, after the weather bureau issued the city's first-ever cold weather red warning on Monday.
A cold front reached the province on Monday, causing temperatures in most places to drop by 12 to 20 degrees since then, according to Xinhua news agency.
The Heilongjiang Meteorological Bureau on Wednesday prolonged an orange alert for spells of extreme cold across the province. The orange warning is second only to red in the country's four-tier extreme weather warning ranking.

The severe weather may have a negative impact on local agriculture, transportation and logistics sectors, the report added.
The freezing temperature has brought frost fogs to the city, with visibility of less than 100 metres (328 feet). Vehicles on the roads had all turned on fog lamps and had to drive slowly, traffic police said.
Ice fog only occurs in the world's coldest regions, as water droplets suspended in air can remain in liquid form down to temperatures as low as -40C.

It forms under specific conditions when high humidity is combined with temperatures no higher than -30C, allowing for ice crystals to form in the air, CNN reported.
The region, regarded as the coldest in China, usually sees winters lasting eight months. Its record low is -52.3C.
Winter in Mohe city beings in October and lasts until late April, and average temperatures stay below freezing for roughly seven months of the year.
