ANGLIAN Water is the best company to work for in the UK, according to reviews from its employees.
The company scored a 4.5 rating on Glassdoor.co.uk’s annual Employee Choice Awards.
Employees said it stood out for it’s flexible working, healthcare scheme and great benefits.
One employee said: “The workforce is clearly proud, passionate and really cares about the work they do, which results in a really positive culture and working environment.”
Another commented: “A company truly dedicated to putting customers at the heart of everything it does, with a strong focus on employee engagement.”
Anglian Water’s website highlights a range of benefits including bonuses, company cars and private healthcare and dental cover.
On Glassdoor several employees highlighted the flexibility the company offered, saying that working from home was an option in some roles and that the company encourages a great work life balance.
In second place was management consultancy firm Bain & Company, which also scored 4.5.
An employee wrote: “Fantastic culture, smart, motivated, inspirational people who genuinely care about each other and their clients.”
On Glassdoor, employees regularly praise the company for investing in professional development and said that the people were great.
The company has a dedicated careers team to give employees guidance and advice on how to progress their careers.
Supply chain solutions provider XPO logistics came third in this year’s awards.
An implementation manager wrote: “Everyone helps each other to achieve success. The work atmosphere is relaxed but everyone is required to accomplish the high standards we provide.”
On Glassdoor the main pros listed were a fast-paced environment, which several employees described as generally enjoyable.
People also said that the company paid very well.
Bromford, a social enterprise providing affordable housing, was voted the fourth best place to work.
An employee wrote: “Great colleagues, flexible working, excellent training, innovative and your opinions matter.”
Staff praised the company for promoting good work / life balance, the fast pace of the job and the flexible working environment – including hot desking.
The company offers a generous holiday structure starting with 27 days and rising to 30 after five years and employees can buy and sell up to a week’s worth of annual leave.
Glassdoor’s 50 UK Best Places to Work in 2019 list features winning employers hiring across a range of industries, including technology, consulting, insurance, finance and retail.
Anglian Water is the only utilities company to feature in the top ten, and it came second last year.
Google (No. 13, 4.4), J.P Morgan (No. 30, 4.3) and PWC (No. 45, 4.2) are the only three employers to make the UK list every year (2015-2019).
Sixteen employers are newcomers to the UK list, including Bain & Company (No. 2, 4.5), IKEA (No. 16, 4.3), Intercontinental Hotels Group (No. 23, 4.3) and wagamama (No. 41, 4.2).
Last year’s winners, Google, have dropped to 13th place while Facebook, which came fourth last year has dropped off the top 50 entirely.
