LET’S face it – heading over to your in-laws for a weekend (or even just an afternoon) is enough to fill most couples with dread.
However, one woman had more reason than most to instantly regret signing up to a overnight visit at her husband’s parent’s home after discovering her father-in-law is a nudist.
Sharing her dilemma on Reddit’s “Am I The A*****” forum, the American woman explained: “I was staying at my husband’s parents house visiting him family/hometown. This was the first time I’ve stayed with them at their house.”
Although things were going fine at first, the woman was horrified to stumble upon her father-in-law naked in the living room when she returned home with her husband one night.
She wrote: “I saw him watching TV without his clothes on when I came home from dinner with my husband.”
But unfortunately for the mortified wife, this was only just the beginning.
“The tip of the iceberg was after his shower,” the user added. “He’s just walking around the house naked to the laundry room. He can’t even wear a towel.”
Unsurprisingly, the woman was fuming that her husband didn’t tell her that his father is a nudist.
She explained: “I told my husband I found [his father’s behaviour] very inappropriate. My husband responded with this is very common of him.”
The woman then confronted her father-in-law and told him she “found it very disrespectful that he can’t wear clothes around others” while he argued that “its house and he can do what he wants”.
Asking the forum whether she overreacted, the woman confessed that she stormed out of her in-laws’ house and headed home early.

She wrote: “I said I’m done and booked a hotel for the night and changed my flight home. My husband told me I was over reacting and did not support me. He’s currently still at his parent’s house while I’m back home in California.”
Considering the awkwardness of the situation, other users have rallied around the woman and agreed that her husband should have warned her of what was in store.
One replied: “Your husband could have told you in advance, which would have affected your decision to stay with them.
“Or your father-in-law could just be modest while you’re staying in their home, out of politeness.”
Similarly, another wrote: “It’s his house sure, but as a guest they should be trying to make you feel comfortable and welcome.
“If you told them it makes you uncomfortable, it’s not that big a deal for him to wear some shorts for a few days.”
Taking a less sympathetic stance, a third replied: “The right thing to do would’ve been to excuse yourself and talk to your husband privately about this behaviour to see if he could accommodate you somewhere else since his father’s nudity makes you uncomfortable. You had no grounds to boss him around in his own house.”
