SELFISH sun-seekers left British beaches covered in litter after rushing to the seaside in sweltering temperatures.
Beauty spots around the country were left ruined as bottles, food packets and plastic waste was abandoned on the sand.

They were slammed by campaigners after leaving rubbish covering the sand at Blackpool Beach and the Edinburgh coastline.
A shocking image of a little boy kneeling down amongst piles of trash on the shoreline was shared as the country saw it’s hottest ever day.
Met Office analysts claim Cambridge recorded 38.7C on Thursday – higher than the 38.5C recorded in Faversham in 2003.
And discarded plastic waste, beers cans, fizzy pop bottles and crisp packets were left littered on the Lancashire beach on what was dubbed “Tropical Thursday”.
Tens of thousands of sun-seekers descended on the popular seaside town as Britain was gripped by a searing heatwave.
Sadly many “disgusting” visitors left their rubbish on the sand after leaving the resort on the Irish Sea coast of England.
Emily Parr, from campaign group Love My Beach, which organises litter picks in the North West, has spoken of her upset after seeing the picture.
She said: “It was completely heartbreaking to see the picture taken on Blackpool Beach yesterday.
“Sadly we have come to expect this kind of thing but to see it on that scale is surprising.
‘COMPLETELY HEARTBREAKING’
“Our volunteers work tirelessly to keep beaches in the area clean so it’s devastating to see them be treated like this.
“You can tell the rubbish is fresh and was left on the beach yesterday.
“If it had been washed up by the sea then the colour in the cans and wrappers would be faded, but it’s not.”
She added: “Our message to people visiting beaches this summer is that they must take all their litter home with them.
“If you can manage to bring these things to the beach with you then you can manage to take them away with you.”
The Love My Beach campaign was launched in 2013 by the environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy.
The group relies on volunteers joining organised litter picks at UK beaches.

Yesterday locals in Cambridge described the heat record as “like Death Valley”.
Dr Mark McCarthy from the National Climate Centre (NCIC) at the Met Office said: “As the official source of meteorological statistics for the UK, we take the quality of our recordings very seriously.
“We are talking about a potential new record for the highest temperature recorded in the UK and we therefore need to thoroughly investigate the observation with our partners from Cambridge University Botanic Garden through statistical analysis and by visiting, to check the site and equipment and ensure there are no potential problems.”
