"Many Photos" - Three ex-PMs demand Boris Johnson ditches No Deal Brexit threat as poll suggests Tories will lose 4 in 10 voters if he does

THREE ex-PMs demanded Boris ditch his No Deal threat – as a poll suggested he will lose four in ten voters if he pursues one.

Tony Blair, Gordon Brown and John Major teamed up to issue gloomy warnings about the dire impact of crashing out of Brussels.

The trio of meddling anti-Brexiteers urged the PM-in-waiting to tear up his vow to quit the EU on October 31 “do or die”.

Mocking the Tory leadership contest, Mr Brown said Ed Balls received more votes during his stint on Strictly Come Dancing than BoJo will to be PM.

Mr Brown – who also became PM without a general election – warned a No-Deal would push the British economy “off a cliff”.

And he said Brexiteers are in danger of descending into a brand of “paranoid nationalism”

Arch Remainer Mr Blair chimed in, raging: “Even before he becomes prime minister this week, Boris Johnson has boxed himself in to a No Deal Brexit.

“If he doesn’t back down from his stated negotiating position, he will fail.”

He said a No Deal Brexit could “be merely very difficult or it could be catastrophic”.

And the two men were back up by ex-Tory PM Sir John.

He stormed: As the evidence mounts of the probable economic and social damage of a No Deal Brexit – and of the rising opposition to it – the new Prime Minister must choose whether to be the spokesman for an ultra-Brexit faction, or the servant of the nation he leads.

“He cannot be both.

“And the choice he makes will define his Premiership from the moment of its birth.”

It comes as a new ComRes poll commissioned by 38 Degrees found that 43 per cent of voters are less likely to vote Tory if there is a No Deal.

While half of voters are worried that crashing out will create NHS staff shortages.
