"Many Photos" - Racing Report Card: A Simon Crisford horse going places, one for your tracker from the Curragh and a Mark Johnston juvenile to note on Sunday

THERE was some proper racing on Sunday. Deauville and the Curragh threw up many a treat.

But with The Open and Le Tour diverting eyes, we’ve picked out a few snippets you may have missed from around the tracks.

A Simon Crisford horse going places 🏆

Royal Ascot champ A’Ali made another serious impression on Sunday, this time in France.

Simon Crisford once again called upon Frankie Dettori to ride his sprinting juvenile, and the double act did not disappoint, despite briefly looking in trouble.

They made the Group 2 Prix Robert Papin a procession and despite only having three starts to his name he looks a serious Group 1 animal in waiting.

Crisford indicated the Nunthorpe may come a tad quick – which is fair enough – but there are many options for this star. A trip back to France looks most likely at this stage.

Garrus did a hell of a lot wrong in the Group 2 Sapphire Stakes at the Curragh, but managed to plug on for a very taking third behind two good horses.

Again he missed the break, and ultimately it cost him a real shot at the win as he was lost over five lengths on seasoned sprinters on only his ninth start.

If Hills can get him to break better, there’s no doubt this grey can make his presence felt in good races this summer and into next season.

Once he gets going he has a serious engine and you only have to watch the way he travelled through his race at York earlier in the season to see that.

A Mark Johnston juvenile to note 🏇

Redcar was hardly glanced at by the majority of punters on Sunday, with a tricky little card not the kind of problem you want to deal with on a Sunday afternoon.

But Mark Johnston was paying close attention and in the opening race Thunderous showed he is a smart horse in his own right.

Now two from two in the Highclere colours, he should qualify for nurseries now and Glorious Goodwood looks perfect for him. Especially when you consider who trains him.

He travelled through this with ease and the race was never in doubt despite lumbering a penalty. Keep an eye out for what mark the handicappers give this unbeaten son of first season sire Night Of Thunder.
