SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY have reported Newcastle to the Premier League over the way they snatched their manager Steve Bruce.
The Geordies last week appointed Bruce as their new boss on a three-year contract, after calling time on the Rafa Benitez era.
But the way they swooped for the 58-year-old who had only been in charge at Hillsborough for five months has angered Wednesday.
So much so they have made an official complaint to the Premier League about the conduct of Mike Ashley’s club throughout the whole process.
A Wednesday statement said: “Following Newcastle United’s announcement on 17 July 2019 of its appointment of former Sheffield Wednesday staff Steve Bruce, Steve Agnew and Stephen Clemence, the club confirms that it has today reported Newcastle United’s conduct to the Premier League.
“As the Premier League will now initiate and carry out investigations into the club’s allegations, the club will not be commenting further on this matter whilst such investigations are ongoing.”
Newcastle are confident they can come through any investigation believing they have acted properly.
Bruce had only arrived at the Owls in February after the club sacked Jos Luhukay – and the club even allowed him to spend time watching England’s cricket tour of the West Indies before he had to start work.

He made a big impact, with Wednesday losing just 3 of the 18 matches he was in charge for, helping them climb to a 12th-place finish in the Championship.
Wednesday believed they had the right man in place to lead a promotion challenge this season – only to have the rug swept from under them by Newcastle’s move.
Once they came calling, the chance to take charge at St James’ Park proved too hard to turn down for Bruce, who has been a lifelong supporter of the club.
