MAURICIO POCHETTINO confirmed he would have considered quitting Tottenham had they won the Champions League.

The Spurs boss stunned football before last month’s final by threatening to leave the club if they lifted trophy.

The North Londoners lost 2-0 to Liverpool in Madrid and Pochettino is busy preparing for the new campaign. But he insisted it was no empty threat.

Speaking on the club’s pre-season tour of Singapore, he said: “The priority always is the club – that’s how I am. I will always prioritise the club before myself.

“Of course maybe with a different result after the final you can think to say okay maybe, it’s a moment to step out of the club and give the club the possibility to have a real new chapter with new coaching staff.

“But I think after the final it was not really great and to finish like this I think in my point I am not a person to avoid problems and to face difficult situations.

“I love a big, difficult challenge and to rebuild that mentality so it’s possible to have a similar season I think that excites and motivates me a lot.

“But would it have been a different story had we won the Champions League? For sure, for sure.

“When you touch the glory, sometimes you behave and feel different and the players feel different. The challenge becomes different.”

Pochettino revealed Kieran Trippier left Tottenham because he wanted a fresh challenge.

Spurs were beaten 2-0 by Liverpool in June last month as the club’s trophy drought continues

Poch said: “Kieran explained to me in private he loved being at Tottenham and working with us. But at 28 years old, players sometimes need to discover new things and new challenges. It’s inside yourself and it’s only you who knows.

“It’s not about agreeing or not agreeing, it’s how you feel. You’re an individual with individual challenges and objectives and you need to accept.”
