"Many Photos" - Leeds suffer double injury blow to Roofe and Bogusz as Hernandez secures late win at Western Sydney Wanderers

LEEDS UNITED suffered a double injury blow as they defeated Western Sydney Wanderers this morning in Australia.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side bounced back from the 4-0 loss to Manchester United on Wednesday by securing a 2-1 win at the death down under.

But the Argentine was left sweating as both Mateusz Bogusz and last season’s top goalscorer Kemar Roofe limped off at the brand new Bankwest Stadium.

Polish star Bogusz gave the Championship promotion hopefuls the lead after just nine minutes.

Jack Harrison picked him out on the edge of the area, and he unleashed a screamer straight into the top left corner.

Roofe came close to doubling the advantage but was denied by the post after getting in behind the Wanderers defence.

But it was Patrick Bamford who wasted the best chance in a dominant first half display for the visitors as he blazed wide from six yards after brilliantly turning his marker.

Leeds could have been three or four up at the break, but they paid the price for their wasted opportunities moments after the restart.

Kwame Yeboah, no relation to Elland Road legend Tony, latched on to a throughball and flicked it past onrushing goalkeeper Kiko Casilla to level.

Things got worse for Bielsa just seconds later as hitman Roofe was caught with a kick from Wanderers defender Tass Mourdoukoutas during a goalmouth scramble.

He attempted to carry on as he limped around gingerly, but his manager decided to take no risks and soon brought him off.

And Bogusz then made it double trouble for Bielsa during the final ten minutes.

The 17-year-old, who impressed greatly in the middle of the park, had his left thigh heavily strapped and looked to be in huge discomfort as he was forced off and replaced by Clarke Odour.

Both injury blows will cause concern with the Championship kick-off against Bristol City just two weeks away.

Fortunately, after Bamford had been denied twice more, Pablo Hernandez was able to at least ensure Leeds ended the clash in positive fashion.

He collected possession out on the right, cut inside before rifling home into the bottom left corner after making his way into the box.

The matchwinner said: “We missed a lot of chances during the game, I think we deserved the win today. I just continued to try to score a second goal.

“It’s important for us to win games but what is more important now is the work so that we arrive in good condition for the first game in the league.”
