"Many Photos" - Kimberley Walsh says Girls Aloud reunion won’t happen yet because they need ‘more time apart from each other’

KIMBERLEY Walsh has dashed fans hopes of a Girls Aloud reunion happening in the near future.

While there was speculation that the five-piece might reunite for their 20th anniversary in 2022, Kimberley, 37, has revealed it’s not going to happen because they need their space from each other.

The Yorkshire-born singer, who is starring alongside Jay McGuinness in new West End musical Big, told Hello! magazine that there is no chance of her band following in the footsteps of the Spice Girls.

She said:”There is no Girls Aloud reunion on the cards right now. The Spice Girls had a phenomenal career but it was very short, over four or five years.”

Kimberley, who is mum to sons Bobby, four, and Cole, two, with her husband Justin Scott, went on: “We literally lived and breathed each other so I think more time needs to have passed for anybody to get those feelings of getting us back together.”

Kimberley made the admission in a new interview with Hello! magazine, where she was interviewed with Big co-star Jay McGuinness

Kimberley and her bandmates Cheryl, Nicola Roberts, Sarah Harding and Nadine Coyle were bought together on ITV reality show Popstars The Rivals back in 2002.

They beat out boy band One True Voice on the show to score a number one hit with their debut single, Sound of The Underground.

From there, they went on to rule the charts for seven years, with hits such as No Good Advice, Biology and Promise Me.

In July 2009, the girl group went on hiatus for three years, but reformed in 2012 for their tenth anniversary tour and Greatest Hits album.

However, rumours were rife of discord between the band backstage during the tour and the girls announced their split just hours after their final gig at Liverpool’s Echo Arena.

The band’s statement at the time said: “Your love and support will stay with us for ever but we have now come to the end of our incredible time together.”

It’s no secret that while Kimberley, Nicola and Cheryl remain close, Sarah and Nadine were also more estranged from the rest of the band.

Nadine admitted she does not see her old bandmates[/caption]

Last year Nadine admitted she hasn’t seen any of the girls, expect for Sarah since the band went their separate ways again in 2013 – and added that the girls were envious of her during their time together.

“I’m not in touch with them,” Nadine said in an interview in July 2018. “I haven’t seen the girls since we finished our last tour together which was a really long time ago.”

She added that her getting more lines to sing in the band caused tensions.

Nadine said: “A thing that did cause stress in the band was the fact that I was given more lines and the girls didn’t like Brian [Higgins, Girls Aloud collaborator and songwriter] as a result of it.

“They didn’t like the label as a result of it, and they didn’t like me as a result of it. So it was just circumstances which were out of my control: I didn’t decide who sang what.”

In her autobiography, Whole Lotta History, released back in 2013, Kimberley admitted she wouldn’t have been friends with Nadine and Sarah if she hadn’t worked with them.

The interview appears in the latest issue of Hello! magazine, out today

“Nicola, Cheryl and I have always remained close in Girls Aloud,” she said. “I think we’d have been friends even if we weren’t in a band together.

“But I’m not sure that would have been the case for me with Nadine or even Sarah.

“That’s not to say I don’t care about them or respect them,’ she added, “they’re just very different from me and I don’t always understand where they’re coming from.”

When Sarah Harding took part in Celebrity Big Brother back in August 2017, she opened up about her lack of relationship with any of her former bandmates.

“It’s so hard to catch up with any of them, really,” she said on the show. “Everyone has got their own thing going on. Three of them have got families now.

“I haven’t seen or heard from one of them for forever. I don’t know where she’s gone.”
