"Many Photos" - Heart-stopping moment motorist is forced to swerve to dodge drink-driving OAP hurtling the WRONG way down M6

THIS is the heart-stopping moment a motorist swerved a drink-driving OAP as he hurtled down the M6 the wrong way.

David Haugton, 75, was initially speeding in the right direction near Lancaster, police said.

Police say he was originally driving in the right direction, before he made a sudden maneouvre

But the pensioner made a sudden maneouvre and began casually travelling towards oncoming traffic.

A clip captured by another road user shows them having to swerve at the last second in order to avoid a horrifying collision.

Lancashire Police were called and officers found Haughton parked next to the central reservation.

The pensioner, from Bolton, was breath tested and found to be over twice the drink driving limit.

He is currently serving an eight month jail sentence and a two year driving ban.

A police spokesman said: “The potential consequences of his actions could have easily been fatal.”

The UK drink-driving limit is 35 microgrammes per 100 millilitres of breath.

This shocking video comes weeks after a Swedish mum claimed she crashed her car while drink-driving because of the stress of Brexit.

Johanna Jeppsson was found in her overturned vehicle near Kintessack in Moray on February 22nd around 8.50pm.

A breath test at the station showed she had 107 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 22mcg.

The driver managed to swerve away just in time, to avoid a horrific crash
