"Many Photos" - England’s World Cup win was so thrilling, James Anderson just wanted to get out and bowl

JAMES ANDERSON admits England’s epic World Cup win made him desperate to go out and bowl.

Even a veteran, who first played for England almost 17 years ago, was captivated by the logic-defying events unfolding at Lord’s seven days ago.

Anderson, 36, was working for BBC radio’s Test Match Special as Eoin Morgan and Co beat New Zealand in a nerve-shredding super over.

And he said: “It was the first time since The Ashes series of 2005 that I felt I was watching as a fan.

“I’ve usually been involved in England matches as a player. It was absolutely fantastic — and I just found the whole occasion inspirational.

“The conclusion was so exciting and uplifting that I just wanted to grab a ball the next day and have a bowl!

“The reaction to England’s win has been amazing. It’s our job to try to carry that momentum into The Ashes.”

Anderson has been included in England’s 13-man squad for Wednesday’s inaugural Test against Ireland at Lord’s.

ASHES AMBITION

The swing bowler, who boasts 575 Test wickets, suffered a torn calf muscle playing for Lancashire on July 2.

If he feels ready, he will face the Irish. If not, he will continue rehab and bowling in the nets to make sure he is 100 per cent fit for the First Ashes Test at Edgbaston on August 1.

And Anderson added: “I feel pretty good at the moment. If I feel fit to play on Wednesday, then great.

“Otherwise, I’ll just keep working towards The Ashes series.”

Surrey all-rounder Sam Curran looks certain to play against Ireland, with the likes of Jofra Archer, Mark Wood and Ben Stokes absent.

And he is another being swept along by a wave of World Cup euphoria.

Curran said: “I don’t think I’m alone in saying it was probably the greatest cricket match ever.

“It’s providing a buzz for everyone in English cricket going into The Ashes, which is the biggest series, and the match against Ireland.

“Days like last Sunday get everyone more excited and desperate to do well in the Test part of the summer.”
